Pre-primary and prekindergarten programs are designed to offer a comprehensive early educational experience for children ages 2
½ to 4½. It is based on our pre-primary goals and objectives and includes opportunities for growth in the following areas: self-concept, perceptual development, language arts, mathematics readiness, science, reading readiness, phonics, art, music, dramatic play, and physical education. A computer is available in each classroom for exploration and skill building.
These programs provide opportunity for optimal social and emotional growth as well as Kindergarten readiness. A nutritious snack is served mid-morning, as well as a hot lunch program available at noon. An afternoon nap time or "quiet time" (for those who have given up napping) are also included in these programs.

KINDERGARTEN

8:30 A.M. - 2:45 P.M.

The kindergarten at Edgewood is designed to meet the needs of a student who may or may not be of kindergarten age. The student is placed according to his/her developmental needs and readiness. This may or may not coincide with his/her chronological age. A student may enter this class as early as 4½ years of age or as late as 6½ years of age. It is our belief that each child's program should provide for his/her needs and that no child should be pushed forward or held back simply to keep up with others. Each student is allowed to progress at her/his own pace in all areas. We do not, however, leave to chance the development of readiness skills. We provide appropriate preliminary experiences to help each child benefit from the formal instruction they will receive in each area of our curriculum. Students who still need readiness skills will be provided with readiness instruction. Advanced students will be provided with challenging learning experiences and materials appropriate to their developmental need.

Our kindergarten covers a traditional kindergarten curriculum within a highly enriched environment. A student completing this program will have the option of moving into the first grade. However, if it is determined another year of growth would benefit the child, placement may be made into another kindergarten program without the child feeling he/she is repeating a grade.
